Faculty desiring to teach Distance Learning courses at Mt. SAC must complete the Skills & Pedagogy for Online Teaching (SPOT) certification course. In the SPOT Canvas course, faculty are introduced to the regulations pertaining to distance learning, course design principles and best practices for delivering an online course.
The course will include:
- Distance Learning Regulations
- Course Design
- Interaction and Collaboration
- Learner Support
Faculty must complete ALL portions of the SPOT Canvas certification course and submit their “sample” CERT course for review and approval by a peer team. Successful completion of SPOT Canvas and approval of the CERT course grants a faculty member consideration to be scheduled for an approved distance learning course within his/her department. Salary Advancement credit is ONLY earned after completion of the SPOT Canvas certification. Since SPOT Canvas is a certification course all components must be completed, therefore partial credit cannot be granted.
